Efficient Oxidative Desulfurization of High-Sulfur Diesel via Peroxide Oxidation Using Citric, Pimelic, and α-Ketoglutaric Acids

The widespread use of diesel fuel for transportation, industry, and electricity generation causes several environmental issues via an increase in the amount sulfur compound emissions. Commercial must be free sulfur-containing compounds since they can cause problems. Considering currently available processes to eliminate compounds, oxidative desulfurization (ODS) is one effective means this purpose. This work presented a simple, low cost, efficient ODS system high-sulfur fuels using peroxide oxidation with aid citric, pimelic, α-ketoglutaric acids. aim study was investigate potential these acids as hydrogen (H2O2) activators optimize reaction conditions maximum removal. results showed that were catalysts initial content 2568 mg L−1, achieving removal efficiency up 95%. optimized found 0.6 g carboxylic acid dosage 10 mL H2O2 at 95 °C. real sample (2568 L−1) shown 27, 34, 84.57%, citric acid, pimelic after 1h, respectively. effectiveness process characterized by gas chromatographic pulsed flame photometric detector (GC-PFPD) Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) techniques. experimental demonstrated developed exhibited high could good alternative commercial application promising efficiency.
